New Zealand’s capital Wellington is on the southernmost edge of the North Island. From the moment we land, we are welcomed by the strong winds that have given this city its title “the Windy City”. While the city is compact, we find ourselves stopping at almost every restaurant, cafe or shop. And if you drive a little further out, you’ll find the ocean, the mountains, and even in the city you’ll always find yourself close to nature. We visited just as spring was turning into summer, and you could feel the excitement in the air. People came out and bathed in the sun, celebrating the seasonal transition.

It is here in this beautiful city that we were blessed with the opportunities of meeting so many makers. From nut butter to beer, and from gin to soaps, ceramics to surfboards. They don’t just make, they create thinking about the nature, environment and community that surrounds them, and they love what they do. Among these creators we also met an ecologist, who works to bring people closer to nature. Here in Wellington, there’s a good relationship between the city, nature, and people, from which there’s much to learn.
